Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course, May 4 – 18 2007, Portland Oregon at Tryon Life Community Farms

A Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course, including earth-based spirituality, direct action training, and nature awareness.

Taught by Starhawk, Erik Ohlsen, and Charles Williams.

TLC Farm is 7 acres of 'Possible', surrounded by a 650 acre forest, inside the city

Take Earth Activist Training at TLC Farm, a 7-acre sustainability education and demonstration center in Portland, Oregon. Timed to finish just before the Village Building Convergence (VBC) 7 begins, this extra-special residential EAT will present a broadbrush course of all things permaculture, while weaving direct action training, nature awareness, and earth-based ceremony into the daily curriculum.

Throughout the course, you will incorporate what you are learning into a real-world permaculture design project prepared by your small group. The two-week intensive will culminate in the presentation of each group's project -- which will earn you an official Permaculture Design Certificate (prerequisite for any advanced course of permaculture
study).

Because of the timing and placement of this EAT intensive, guest teachers will lead special sessions on the many creative projects and movements taking place that are transforming Portland's urban ecology. Depending on your schedule, you may be inspired and available to put some of your newly acquired permie skills to work at the VBC, at TLC Farm, or one of dozens of other sites around the city as soon as you graduate. See www.cityrepair.org/vbc for details.

Another unusual aspect of this EAT is childcare: the family-oriented nature of this community farm makes it possible. So -- while the coursework is highly concentrated, the days are long, and the energy expended is immense -- this is one EAT course where you can bring your children if you so desire.

this is a place rooted in all our relations, with the earth and each other

This is a full, two-week, intensive, residential course. Food and lodging (tent camping) is provided within the course fee. Childcare is provided as an option and for an additional fee.

Sliding Scale Pricing (does include food and lodging, does not include childcare):
$1500, if you have abundance in the form of money
$1200, if you are working and solvent
$1000, if you are scraping by

Childcare option:
Cedar Moon, the intentional community co-hosting the workshop with TLC Farm, is excited about creating childcare solutions that match your children, their needs, and your budget. Please contact Sue Romas <mailto:sue@tryonfarm.org>sue@tryonfarm.org to start the conversation. Specific situations will vary significantly, but we think $350-$450 per child will be a minimum fair compensation for basic childcare during the two weeks.

Work Trade:
We offer a limited amount of work trade positions per course. Students are required to pay half or more of one of the above sliding scale prices, pay a deposit, and be willing to come early and stay late to the course. Additionally, work traders are required to submit a work trade application and personal letter letting us know what your specific skills are. More information can be found on the "work trade page".

Scholarship:
Occasionally Earth Activist Training is able to provide full EAT scholarships (100% tuition without exchanging work hours). If you request a full scholarship without work-trade, please mention this in your application letter, and tell us why. More information can be found on the "scholarship" page".

Deposit:
Deposits are one half of the Sliding Scale Pricing you select. It is due with your registration form, and without both (additional info if you are requesting work trade) we cannot consider you registered. We will accept registration applications for the May 2007 EAT Course up until 7 days prior to the course starting.

Cancellations:
While EAT cannot offer refunds, deposits and course fees may be applied to a future course .

We understand that many of the very people we most want in the course-activists, youth, small farmers, people from poor communities- just don't have a lot of money. So we work hard to make this training accessible to as many people as possible. Please feel free to contact us at info(at)EarthActivistTraining.org so we can help make this course work for you, regardless of your financial situation.
